چکیده
malignant germ cell tumors, and it most frequently occurs in the anterior mediastinum in the chest (1). The posterior mediastinum is a rare site of origin for seminoma, and prominent cystic change of a posterior mediastinal seminoma has not been previously described. The present report describes the CT, MR and F-FDG PET/CT findings of a case of a primary posterior mediastinal seminoma that was encasing the descending thoracic aorta and the tumor displayed prominent cystic change. Orchitis reveals an extragonadal primary mediastinal thymic seminoma: a coincidence or not?
BACKGROUND Mediastinal thymic seminomas are rare male germ cell tumors with extragonadal origin that appear predominately with a cystic appearance. An asymptomatic 26-year-old man received an annual medical check-up, and chest X-ray showed a protrusion of the aortopulmonary window. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed an anterior mediastinal tumor and cysts with thin wall and septum enhancement. The preoperative diagnosis was cystic thymoma or malignant lymphoma. We performed total resection of the tumor through a median sternotomy. The...
متن کاملPrimary seminoma arising in the middle mediastinum: A case report.
Primary mediastinal seminoma often occurs in the anterior mediastinum of young males. It is unusual for the tumor to originate in the middle or posterior mediastinum, and such cases have rarely been reported in the English literature. The present study reports the case of a 52-year-old man with a 3.0-cm primary seminoma arising in the middle mediastinum. The patient presented with the symptoms ...

Seminoma is a rare, malignant germ cell tumor (GCT) that usually develops in the third or fourth decade of life in males. Although the most common location for a malignant GCT is the gonads, it can also arise in extragonadal regions, such as the mediastinum. The authors describe a case of a 37-year-old caucasian man, with smoking habits, arterial hypertension and dyslipidemia, who was admitted ...
متن کاملMultilocular Thymic Cyst Associated with Mediastinal Teratoma: A Case Report
Congenital cysts are typically unilocular and thin-walled to the point of translucency; careful histopathologic examination shows no evidence of inflammation. In contrast, acquired thymic cysts are usually multilocular, hence the commonly used term “multilocular thymic cyst (MTC).” These cysts have thick, fibrous walls, and histopathologic examination typically reveals significant inflammation ...
